Breaking Stereotypes: The Role of the High Elf

Without a doubt, elves are among the most popular characters in fantasy literature. That is why it should come as no surprise that elves play a large role in the online version of Warhammer. What makes the inclusion of elves so special in this game is the fact that elves are elevated beyond a mere supporting character role. While such a limited role is commonplace in many other games, Warhammer Online greatly expands their role. So, if you step into the shoes of a High Elf character, you will discover a great many benefits to playing the role.
Unlike the traditional image of elves, High Elves maintain a much more powerful presence due to their fighting prowess and militaristic role. The fighting skills of High Elves is much different their human counterparts. Namely, elves are not large beings. As a result, they would be unable to wear heavy army or create a physically imposing armada. Instead, High Elves must travel lightly while using more cunning than would be needed by a character that gets by mostly on power and brawn. This opens the door to a great deal of unique game play since more strategy and cunning is involved. Yes, a different type of strategy must be employed when assuming the role of a High Elf. For some, this may be a challenge that can make for a very enjoyable gaming session.
Now, there is nothing wrong with playing a Conan-like character as such a brutish hero can always be a lot of fun. However, such heroes have a tendency to be one dimensional. They either use their sword or their fists to get out of a predicament. Once again, while this can be fun, it can also lead to predictable game play. Because High Elves do not rely on physical prowess, the characters need to develop other skills in order to succeed. These skills can include the ability to be stealthy and sneak up on their opponents. They could seek to learn magic in order to achieve their goals. Or, they could always sharpen up on their communicative skills in order to find their way out of a problematic scenario. Most gamers new to the realm of Warhammer may not be completely open to such an approach to the game. However, those that have been around a while may prefer to essay the role of a High Elf since it can be a unique departure from stereotypical hero roles.

And, really, how much fun would a game be if you played the same character all the time? Why not shake things up and try a radically different approach? This can ensure your game play is always a new and exciting experience no matter how long you have been playing.
