When the word salvaging is mentioned, people will often have very specific images in their mind as to what this entails. For many, salvaging is merely recovering items that would otherwise be discarded. Now, while such an assessment is accurate, it can lead people only think of mundane items worth salvaging. They simply do not see the value in salvaging items made of magic. This is a shame because a little bit of magic dust can do wonders for defeating monsters, malevolent, and army hordes.

Such a scenario certainly does not exist in real life but it does exist in the virtual realm of the Warhammer Online game. This game is an enjoyable fantasy-adventure excursion that has enthralled millions of fans throughout the globe. One reason it appeals to so many is that the game is not exactly an easy one to succeed at. Considerable skills and talents are needed and the ability to adapt among changing environments is critical for success. This is why salvaging is so important. It provides a means for succeeding when the odds have shifted against you. Salvaging magical items is a form of creating a handicap for your opponent and shifting the odds in your favor.

But, it is also advisable to avoid salvaging if you are not comfortable with it. Now, some may wonder why certain players would avoid salvaging. For some, the more difficult the game is, the more challenging it is. And, to these players, overwhelming challenges add to the fun. As such, certain player-characters will have a specific outlook on what their role should be in the game. If their character is not inclined to use magic then it would be best to avoid using it. After all, you will want to play a character that is consistent. To do otherwise means you are not really playing a character as much as you are “gaming” the rules of play. This can undermine a lot of the fun of the game. Additionally, it won’t necessarily endear you with the other players either. Now, this is not a knock on salvaging as this is a critically important trait. However, for those looking for a more realistic gaming session, salvaging may not be the activity you should participate in.

However, stubbornness is not always a noble trait. Remember, the first three letters in Warhammer Online are W-A-R and that infers a great deal of combat operations. In order to succeed in the game, you may have to adapt your character to certain scenarios. This could include salvaging magic items even through the character may be adverse to it. Who knows? Perhaps creating a uniquely conflicted character has its game play benefits as well.

Warhammer Online presents a very expansive world that requires many special needs of those that participate in it. Often, many characters are reliant of one another. In some cases, the same character can perform two or more different roles depending upon his/her skill level. And, of course, it is common to see characters performing roles that compliment other characters needs. Such is the case with those characters that are skilled in cultivation. And it is no understatement to say characters with cultivation skills are critically important to the game. It is these characters that grow the plants and fungi needed to create apothecary potions. And, as anyone that has played the game knows, apothecary portions are absolutely paramount in order to survive in difficult moments in the game.

While being a cultivator is not always the most exciting role to play (That is why many characters combine this role with other skills to create a multifaceted character), it is a very important role to play. Once again, the other characters are reliant upon the cultivator’s skill in order for their own game to succeed. This opens many doors for the individual with the skill of a cultivator. Actually, if the person playing the role of a cultivator wishes to make the role more interesting, he/she can play it with a decidedly harder edge. In other words, just because other players have need of your cultivation skills does not mean you need to be selfless and present an air of altruism with them. Seriously, this skill can make a character in great demand.

So, when can a character’s cultivation skills grow in demand? Does someone need their intelligence boosted? Do they need to develop more powerful ballistics to defeat an adversary? Has a character suffered a serious injury and needs healing? If so, they will need the services of an apothecary but such a player is of no use without someone to provide cultivation skills. Considering that most players in need of cultivation services are wanting, the door is open for the cultivator to achieve his goals and needs through bargaining with those in need. Really, if the cultivator always gave people what they wanted just because they asked the game would be somewhat dull would it not?

Now, does this mean the cultivator is mean-spirited or a villain? Well, in some cases, that might very well be true. However, the real answer will lie in the motivations of the cultivator. Of course, it is the player himself that devises his own motivations. So, the door is open for you to do whatever it is you want with the character. That can make for very engaging play.

How an Apothecary Can Aid Game Play

There are many uses for an apothecary in Warhammer Online and, surprisingly, there are players that are not completely aware of these many benefits. One reason for this is that most people will look towards an apothecary as a means of enhancing offensive weapons. Now, there is nothing wrong with this strategy at all. The opponents that you may face might be very combative and this will necessitate extra powerful weaponry in order to succeed in the game. However, as the old saying goes, a great offense is often a great defense. That is why it is critical to never overlook the benefits of using an apothecary potion as a means of boosting defensive capabilities.

One of the best ways to do this would be to use an apothecary potion to increase the strength of your armor. While armor is certainly helpful, it has its limitations. If armor was invulnerable, no war that was ever declared in the Middle Ages would have ended. In short, armor can provide a sense of protection but it cannot make a person indestructible.

Since armor will have difficulty dealing wih traditional weaponry, the inclusion of magical adversaries, monsters, and other fantastic entities, then the need for a little extra protection is critical. This is because avoiding injuries and damage will allow you to play the game in a more proactive manner. Specifically, when your armor is able to handle a great deal of damage, you can move forward in the face of aggression and threats. This is certainly more preferable than having to retreat or disengage all the time. Such strategies are often reactive and they do not allow characters to propel the game forward. Plus, it is not all that much fun to always be on the run. So, using an apothecary potion can help you stay more in control of your own game play.

On the flipside, however, it is important to not make your armor too strong. If you devise armor that is virtually invulnerable, then the mystery is taken out of the game. With no chance of losing, winning losing much of its appeal and each battle becomes pre-determined. So, do not make the power level of your armor so significant that you are invulnerable. That will make for truly dull game play and it is often not appreciated by the other participants. So, make your armor strong but avoid overdoing it. This is a good common sense approach to game play most will agree with.

Butchering: It Is Not What You Think

Warhammer Online remains a game many millions of people worldwide love to participate in. But, there are aspects to the game that those lacking familiarity with it might be somewhat put off by. One such aspect that may seem odd on the surface is the art and science of butchering. As the name implies, butchering centers on dissecting the corpse of a fallen monster in order to acquire valuable items and resources. For some, the notion of butchering is grotesque to say the least. However, it is important to look at butchering from its proper perspective: it is a craft that is necessary in a primitive world.

Contrary to what some unenlightened critics may say, butchering does not involve some gruesome quasi-operation performed for glee. It is a process that is necessary to a player to survive in the complex world of Warhammer Online. So, in a sense, butchering is more akin to field dressing an animal in a real life hunting excursion. Or, more accurately, butchering could also be looked at as a simple aspect of an environmental life cycle. When a living creature dies, it is fed to those elements in its ecosystem that would have need of it.
This is to ensure the survival of the other creatures in the realm.

For example, to survive in the world of Warhammer, there may need to be a reliance on magical items. If one does not have access to magical items then it becomes necessary to acquire them from elsewhere. Butchering is one such strategy of acquisition. Granted, strategy may not be the right word to use. It is a learned craft and skill and often requires training. What it most definitely is not, however, is an exercise designed to add shock value to the game. While there are definitely online games that wallow in being shocking, Warhammer is definitely not one of them.

For those that may be uncomfortable with the notion of butchering, there needs to be a realization that Warhammer Online takes place in a world that is essentially based on medieval times. As such, the closeness to nature element akin to butchering is a normal.
To others that are not completely familiar with the game, butchering does not immediately appear to possess any legitimate value even though it does.

But, what if you yourself are queasy about butchering? The answer to this problem is to simply leave the butchering to another character.
If it is not your bag, let someone else do it. This would be a much better plan and would make the game a lot more fun for you.

The Importance of Scavenging

When discussing the game of Warhammer Online to someone that may not be familiar with it, it would be best not to delve into the subject of scavenging. After all, the subject of taking items from the corpse of a dead monster or character will probably rise more than a few eyebrows among the uninitiated. However, for serious players of the game, if you are not scavenging, you are probably not going to amass the tools you need to complete a successful campaign. Simply put, scavenging skills are an absolute must for players looking to survive in the chaotic and complex would of Warhammer Online.

While scavenging may seem morose, it is critically important to game play since it can lead to many helpful discoveries. For example, finding magical items on the person of a fallen corpse could go a long way towards succeeding in a campaign. Actually, even minor items such as finding a few gold coins could turn out to be helpful at an appropriate time in the future. Really, since the corpse is not using the items, you might as well take put them to your own use. However, it is important to go about the art of scavenging the right way or else you may not gain the most benefit from it.

First and foremost, you will need the right to scavenge a corpse. Usually, it is the individual that has killed the character that has the right to scavenge the remains. It is also true that after a certain amount of time has passed, the corpse becomes “public domain” and anyone can have at it. That is why it is best to look for signs that the corpse has been left unattended for a while. The presence of vultures or flies would indicate as much. However, rushing up to a freshly killed corpse for scavenging comes with a number of risks. Namely, laying claim to another character’s booty is a surefire way to create enemies and complicate your game play needlessly. That is why it is important to always ascertain whether or not it is safe to scavenge before engaging in the activity.

Also, keep in mind the fact that scavenging is a learned skill. Haphazardly pilfering through a corpses pocket may not lead to the discoveries of any merit. So, prior to engaging in the activity, it would be best to seek out an appropriate trainer of scavenging first. This way, your skill level will go up enough that you will benefit from your scavenging activities. Remember, if you are going to scavenge you will want to do it right.

That is why it should come as no surprise that elves play a large role in the online version of Warhammer. What makes the inclusion of elves so special in this game is the fact that elves are elevated beyond a mere supporting character role. While such a limited role is commonplace in many other games, Warhammer Online greatly expands their role. So, if you step into the shoes of a High Elf character, you will discover a great many benefits to playing the role.

The fighting skills of High Elves is much different their human counterparts. Namely, elves are not large beings. As a result, they would be unable to wear heavy army or create a physically imposing armada. Instead, High Elves must travel lightly while using more cunning than would be needed by a character that gets by mostly on power and brawn. This opens the door to a great deal of unique game play since more strategy and cunning is involved. Yes, a different type of strategy must be employed when assuming the role of a High Elf. For some, this may be a challenge that can make for a very enjoyable gaming session.

Now, there is nothing wrong with playing a Conan-like character as such a brutish hero can always be a lot of fun. However, such heroes have a tendency to be one dimensional. They either use their sword or their fists to get out of a predicament. Once again, while this can be fun, it can also lead to predictable game play. Because High Elves do not rely on physical prowess, the characters need to develop other skills in order to succeed. These skills can include the ability to be stealthy and sneak up on their opponents. They could seek to learn magic in order to achieve their goals. Or, they could always sharpen up on their communicative skills in order to find their way out of a problematic scenario. Most gamers new to the realm of Warhammer may not be completely open to such an approach to the game. However, those that have been around a while may prefer to essay the role of a High Elf since it can be a unique departure from stereotypical hero roles.

And, really, how much fun would a game be if you played the same character all the time? Why not shake things up and try a radically different approach? This can ensure your game play is always a new and exciting experience no matter how long you have been playing.

The Benefits of Talisman Making in Warhammer Online

Is cheating at a game ever acceptable? When the structure of the game is designed in such a way that gaining an edge over opponents is allowed, then cheating is more than acceptable. It becomes critical for success which is the case with talisman making in Warhammer Online. In Warhammer Online, players are allowed to “cheat” by creating a talisman (or several talismen) to give a character an edge in game play.

Of course, talisman making is not really cheating because it is all part of the game. It is also a complex process to master. That’s why understanding the basic process of talisman making is important to success in the game.

The first step a player must take involves the collection of the fragments needed to create a talisman. These fragments must contain a magical element or else the talisman will not have any power. The best way to acquire these fragments is either through salvaging them or by purchasing them at an auction block. Afterwards, you will want to place the fragments into a reliable container which safely house them. (Yes, you will have to salvage or purchase a proper container as well) On a side note, it is possible to add non-magical elements to the magical fragments provided they help boost the potential power of the talisman. Gold dust, for example, can have the effect of significantly increasing the potency of a talisman.

Once you have added all the magical and magic boosting agents you have acquired into your container, you will need to engage the game’s fuse button. As the name implies, fusing will combine all the elements you have acquired and create the talisman. However, it is important to note that just because you have created a talisman does not mean it will be as effective as you wish. This is even doubly true if you are salvaging whatever elements you have come across in a random fashion. So, the talisman you have made may or may not possess the amount of power you need. Then again, it may even end up being so powerful that its use must be tempered with self-control. Either way, in order to effectively use the talisman, you will need to gauge its power before using it. This is where the bar comes into play.

Placing your container into the bar window will yield a gauge of the power of the talisman. It will tell you how weak or how strong the talisman is. Obviously, you can reduce or increase the power of you talisman by crafting it into the item you wish using the bar as a guide. Yes, it may take a while to craft the specific talisman you are in need of but that is the joy and fun of the game! If it were too easy, it certainly would not be a fun or engaging game to play. And Warhammer Online is a lot of fun and the ability to excel at the game through talisman making is one reason why

It has been said the collapse of the Karak Ankor kingdom completely changed the role of the dwarf in Warhammer society. Unlike other fantasy games, dwarves in Warhammer play a more proactive and forceful role. They are not mere supporting characters and they do not exist for comedic relief. However, the characters remain somewhat conflicted due to their individual history in the game. In particular, the essence of dwarf society was forged in the Karak Ankor, but with the collapse of that society the once proud dwarves now must be subjected to integrating themselves in the societies that have emerged in its wake. This has led to an interesting dynamic as far as the crafting of the dwarf character roles go.

Dwarves are known for their tenacity and tough exterior. They are also intelligent beings and possess solid military skills. But, probably the one thing that truly sets them apart from other characters is their trade skills. Dwarves are known for their talents with mining, metallurgy, and engineering. This expands their role in the game into realms other characters may not be versatile enough to enter.

To say there is a unique perspective to be gained from the fall from grace dwarves have experienced would be a significant understatement. Without a doubt, one of the most painful psychological perspectives one could experience is to remember how great life used to be. In essence, this is the outlook many dwarves have on life since their history in the realm of Warhammer Online is that of a once great group that saw its empire and culture decline. This is not to infer being a dwarf infers weakness. In reality, the opposite is true since many dwarves essay the role of powerful fighters in an army. But, the glory days of dwarf society have come and gone making the role dwarves play in Warhammer one that possesses a different interactive approach with other characters.

There is the true fun with playing a dwarf character. Playing a dwarf in Warhammer is not like playing a dwarf in other games. In Warhammer, the ability to assume the role of a Dwarf opens the door to many opportunities for unique and interesting game play. After all, a game is only as interesting as the characters whose shoes you step into and playing the role of a dwarf can bring with it a great deal of unique fun. And, of course, there is also the fact that dwarves can assume the role of a hero or a villain which also adds to the complexity of these brilliant characters. And that, of course, adds to the great fun it is to play these characters.

Chaos…
In order for heroes to look good, the villains must look formidable. In order for people to care about the preservation of a heroic kingdom, the oppositional forces must be ruthless and possess extensive resources. In short, the antagonists must present a significant threat to the protagonists. The creators of Warhammer Online understand this. This is why the made the threat of the Chaos characters to be serious, severe, and overwhelming. This is what adds a sense of drama and immediacy to the proceedings. And yes, the threat the Chaos armies present to the Empire is a serious one and it is at the core of the central plots of Warhammer.

What makes the presence of Chaos so intriguing is the fact that they are God-like corporeal entities which influence people that live in true reality. (The Chaos Gods live in a parallel realm) This concept is not a new one to fantasy realms. Many point to the brilliant science-fiction and fantasy work crafted by the legendary British author Michael Moorcock but Moorcock was also influenced by the brilliant work of H.P. Lovecraft. Regardless of the original inspiration, these are interesting adversaries to engage with due to their powers and ethereal form. Dealing the havoc they create can sometimes be slightly less difficult since humans act as the appendages of the Gods’ malevolence. And it is these human agents that players will have to deal with during their sessions.

The human beings that comprise the followers of the Chaos Gods are the following:

Zealots – As the name implies, these are the fanatical priests of the Chaos Gods. The Zealots are often a conduit to the other human Chaos characters. For example, one of the functions of the Zealots is to whip up feverous frenzy among the followers with the ultimate goal being eternal loyalty.

Marauders – The Marauders are among the most feared members of the Chaos legions. Empowered by magic, the Marauders are the berserkers that assume of the role of roving Chaos military men. However, the lack the discipline and humility of a noble army. Instead, they live to create mayhem wherever they appear.

Magus – These are essentially the magic warriors of the Chaos legion. Since they possess the ability to cast spells, they are incredibly difficult characters to contend with.

Chosen – For lack of a better description, the Chosen are the “Tough Guy” Warriors of the Chaos Gods. Covered from head to toe in battle armor, the Chosen strike an impressive and imposing figure.

Of course, even though these characters have been described as adversaries, that does not mean you always must oppose them. Actually, you could even play them in your own campaign. And, considering how uniquely evil they are, such game play could be quite engaging.

When you read the official description of the Empire at Mythic Entertainment’s Warhammer website, you receive a description that is anything but sugar coated. Specifically, the description refers to the Empire as a realm that is not only under constant threats from external forces, it is “rotting” from within. While such a description would seem morose to some, it is actually a good thing. After all, whoever can set right what is wrong will certainly become a legendary hero for the ages. So, why not let that hero be you?

At the root of all good adventures, there is conflict. Specifically, conflict refers to the impediments that can make achieving a goal difficult. In the dysfunctional world of Warhammer Online’s Empire, conflicts abound. This is clearly a good thing because it makes for thoroughly engaging game play.

The most overt conflicts are that of the external forces which seek to destroy the Empire. For example, the Chaos Marauders would like nothing more than to conquer the empire and bring it to its knees. Many player characters are involved in preserving the Empire and defeating the external threats. Then, there are those that enjoy more earthen adventures. That is, there are characters that have no true connection to the primary conflicts facing the Empire. However, such conflicts have ripple effects that can “hammer” other characters that are seeking to achieve their own goals. In short, there are many unique spins a game can take for a player.

For example, let say you essay the role of a character with partial amnesia. You have knowledge of a limited set of goals you must accomplish but you do not know why. It is your hope that you will discover who you truly are while in the process of completing the mission. But, can you complete the mission if you lack a true understanding of who you are? Oh, and by the way, the whole process is about to become even more complicated. It would seem that you have been targeted by Witch Hunters, the rampaging characters that seek to root out subversives working for the Chaos Army. But, are you truly a member of the Chaos Army or are you something else? Yes, a game of Warhammer Online can be truly engaging particularly when the shadow of the conflicts of the Empire fall on new characters. Then again, even those that are veterans of the game can enjoy such intrigue and conflict. After all, it has much to offer!
